Terms of Service
The agreement between you and PayLens covering what the service does, what it does not do, and the rights each of us has.
- PayLens produces estimates from published Australian rules. It is general information, not financial, tax or legal advice.
- Nothing in these terms excludes the consumer guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
- You are responsible for checking a figure before acting on it, particularly before lodging a return or signing a contract.
1. This agreement
These terms form a binding agreement between you and the entity operating PayLens at paylens.com.au. They apply whenever you use the website, the calculators, a PayLens account or any related service.
By using PayLens you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service. Our Privacy Policy forms part of this agreement and explains how we handle personal information.
2. What PayLens is, and what it is not
PayLens applies published Australian rules to figures you enter and shows you the result. That is the whole of the service, and being precise about its limits is more useful to you than a broad disclaimer.
Where a decision has consequences you cannot easily reverse, consult a registered tax agent, a licensed financial adviser or a legal practitioner. You can verify a tax practitioner on the Tax Practitioners Board register, and general guidance is available free from ASIC Moneysmart.
3. Estimates and accuracy
Every figure PayLens produces is an estimate generated from a versioned rule set, and each rule carries the income year it belongs to. We take care to keep those rules current and to label provisional settings as provisional, but we do not warrant that any figure will match an ATO assessment, a payslip or a decision by another agency.
Results depend entirely on what you enter. A result is only as accurate as its inputs, and a calculation that omits a second job, a reportable fringe benefit, a capital gain or an offset will differ from your actual position.
Rates and thresholds change, sometimes retrospectively. Where a change affects a calculation you have saved, we will tell you. Historic years are treated as immutable: once a year has closed we do not silently substitute current settings into it.
4. Accounts and eligibility
You may use the calculators without an account. To save data you need one, and you must be at least 16 years old to create it.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your credentials secure, and for activity carried out under your account. Tell us promptly at support@paylens.com.au if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorisation.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to do any of the following.
- Use PayLens for any unlawful purpose, or to provide regulated tax or financial advice to others as though it were your own analysis.
- Scrape, harvest or bulk-extract content, or use automated means to access the service other than a well-behaved search engine crawler.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the rule sets or source code.
- Interfere with the service, probe its security, or circumvent any access control or rate limit.
- Resell, sublicense or commercially redistribute PayLens output as a competing product.
- Upload anything that infringes another person's rights, or that contains malicious code.
6. Your data and our content
You keep ownership of the information you enter. You grant us only the licence we need to operate the service for you: to store, process and display that information back to you, and to produce the calculations you request. We do not claim any broader right to it, and we do not use it to train models or sell it.
The PayLens name, logo, interface, written guides and rule sets are our property or licensed to us, and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. You may read, print and share our guides for personal, non-commercial use with attribution. Everything else requires our written permission.
7. Third-party sources and links
PayLens draws on figures published by the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Services Australia, the Fair Work Commission and other bodies. Those sources are cited so you can verify any number yourself, and the underlying material remains the property of the publishing body.
We link to external sites for reference. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability. A link is not an endorsement.
8. Fees and paid features
The core calculators are free to use. Where a paid feature exists, its price, billing period and inclusions are shown before you subscribe, and all prices are in Australian dollars and include GST where applicable.
You can cancel a subscription at any time, with access continuing to the end of the paid period. We will give you at least 30 days' notice before any price increase takes effect, and you may cancel before it applies. Nothing here limits your rights to a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law.
9. Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep PayLens available continuously but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend or discontinue features, and we will give reasonable notice before removing a feature you rely on or before making a change that materially reduces the service. Where a discontinuation affects saved data, we will provide an export option before it takes effect.
10. Liability and your consumer rights
Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies those guarantees, or any other right you have that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, and to the extent permitted by law, PayLens is provided on an as-is basis and we exclude all other warranties. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profits or revenue, or for loss arising from your reliance on an estimate without independent verification.
Where our liability can be limited under the Australian Consumer Law, we limit it to resupplying the service or paying the cost of resupply. Where a claim falls outside those guarantees, our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or one hundred dollars.
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your breach of these terms or your unlawful use of the service. This does not apply to the extent the claim results from our own breach or negligence.
11. Suspension and termination
You may close your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate access where you materially breach these terms, where we are required to by law, or where continued access poses a security risk. Except where a breach is serious or the law prevents it, we will give you notice and a reasonable opportunity to fix the problem first. On termination you can export your data for 30 days.
12. Complaints and disputes
If something has gone wrong, email support@paylens.com.au. We will acknowledge within 5 business days and aim to resolve the matter within 30 days. Most issues are resolved at this stage and we would rather fix a problem than argue about it.
If we cannot reach agreement, you retain every avenue otherwise available to you, including your state or territory consumer affairs body and the ACCC. These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, and we each submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. Nothing in this clause prevents you bringing a claim in a tribunal that has jurisdiction where you live.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service or the law changes. The effective date at the top of the page always reflects the current version. For a change that materially affects your rights we will notify account holders by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and continuing to use PayLens after that date means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, you may close your account.
14. General
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under this agreement without our consent; we may transfer ours in connection with a sale or restructure, on notice to you. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about the service.
